This is another useful therapeutic metaphor. It takes advantage of images from sci-fi films, books and TV programmes to help create your own idea of an internal control room.
Use your imagination to create your inner control room. It doesn't matter how visual you are. It can be a very clear vivid picture, just faint images or even a simple sense of what your control room is like.
When you are in the control room you can use the buttons, levers, switches and monitors to make all sorts of adjustments to your feelings, behaviour, thoughts and reactions.
This technique is fun to practise and you can use it as many times as you like. Each time you use it you can find another way to make helpful changes and adjustments for yourself.
