Self hypnosis

There are a number of practical things you can do to maximise your success at going into trance and achieving change during self-hypnosis:

Find somewhere at home you can relax and be undisturbed. Use this place each time you practise. Gradually your sub-conscious will associate this place with going into trance. Then each session gets easier.

Choose an item of furniture where you feel very relaxed. You can sit or lie down. Try each way and see what suits you best.

Decide on a time of day when you are most able to relax without outside disturbances and free of other concerns and pre-occupations.

(Optionally burn some neroli oil . This is believed to have a hypnotic effect.)

Decide how long you wish to remain in hypnosis today and make a mental note.

When you are in a comfortable position read your goal to yourself . Close your eyes and repeat the goal to yourself several times.

Now you are ready for self-hyponosis. You can do any of the following:

  • Use one of your self-hypnosis CDs from your hypnotherapy treatments;
  • Use the notes from my self hypnosis factsheet to develop your own approach to self-hypnosis;
  • Expand the notes from the factsheet to make your own self-hypnosis script, which you can record onto CD using your own voice and play back to yourself.
